L. Allen Strate

L. Allen “Larry” Strate, also known as “Doc” Strate, grew up in Montana’s Bitterroot Valley as a fourth generation “Bitterrooter” and chose to return to the land of his roots after a long and distinguished career in law that saw him serve many years on the faculty of the Business School at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Among other awards he received at UNLV, he was given its “Distinguished Faculty Award” in 2002 and received Emeritus status at UNLV upon his retirement – when he returned to Montana after an absence of 50 years. In 2013 Strate was honored with the David Walter Research Fellowship from the Montana State Historical Society as well as the “Unsung Hero” Award from the Hamilton, Montana, Chamber of Commerce. Strate is a graduate of the University of Montana, UNLV, and the Gonzaga Law School. He makes his home in Hamilton.

Strate has been researching the history of Hamilton’s Red Light District since his return home, intrigued by the fact that no one had ever pulled its story together in book form.. This book is a result of that effort.
